“We're connected, as women. It's like a spiderweb. If one part of that web vibrates, if there's trouble, we all know it, but most of the time we're just too scared, or selfish, or insecure to help. But if we don't help each other, who will?” ― Sarah Addison Allen, The Peach Keeper
Merriam Webster Dictionary defined sisterhood as the solidarity of women based on shared conditions, experiences or concerns. Feminists used the term sisterhood to express the connection of women who are not biologically related but bonded in solidarity. Hence, sisterhood is the solidarity among women.
Talking about sisterhood is not always easy. We may share a same gender identity, as women; but we have a different background for example ethnicity, class, etc.; which shaped our experience. However, if we shared same condition, gender discrimination in whatever forms, why don't we support each other? Sometimes I'm tired experiencing, watching, reading or hearing things that weakening sisterhood. Do we have a strong sisterhood? Do we support each other?
Once in my life, my boyfriend cheated on me by having a relationship with another girl. I tried to communicate with that person without anger, yet asking what kind of relationship they have. No answer from her, for me it's more than my boyfriend cheated on me, but my sister cheated on me. Another time, a friend of mine's wife called me, asking me what relationship I had with her husband. I told her the truth that I don't have any relationship with her husband, except friend. What she said? She tells me to get married soon, to share everything with my boyfriend and questioning why my photo on her husband's mobile phone as well saying that she knows my boss very well. What? Why she told me what I should to do, like getting married? soon? Trying to threaten me by saying that she knows my boss very well. I understand in many cases, especially love cases, woman always blame another woman, but NOT man.
Some friends of mine (female) telling me that having a male boss is better than having a female boss. I don't think that we should generalize it, I ever have a female boss and a male boss. I do think everyone has a different type of leadership, but of course we should not accuse that some attitudes is because of their gender. In this case, it may not supporting female to be a leader.
